SILCHAR: Silchar NIT, on Friday night, witnessed a unprecedented situation as Union Education and External Minister of State, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh left the venue fuming after he was asked to wait for the inaugural function of North East Y-20 Conclave as the local MP, Dr Rajdeep Roy was yet reach.

‘A minister cannot wait for MP’, a visibly angry Singh made it clear and left the NIT campus for Silchar Circuit House where his accommodation was arranged by the organizers. However, after repeated requests by the NIT Director, Dilip Kumar Baidya and Registrar Rupjyoti Dev, the minister finally appeared on the dias at night. The inaugural function, scheduled at 5 pm, finally started at 8.30 pm with traditional lamp lighting by Singh and Dr Roy along with Baidya and Assam University Vice Chancellor Rajive Mohan Pant, Arunachal Pradesh NIT director Ram Prakash Sarma and Sumit Pandey, the national Prabhari of Think India. However, the programme, attended by students as well as scholars of various NITs of the north-eastern region, had by that time lost its usual rhythm.

Rajkummar Ranjan Singh arrived at Silchar Circuit House on Friday early morning. As per itinerary, he was escorted to the NIT campus in the afternoon. The inaugural programme was scheduled at 5 pm. But MP Dr Roy could not reach the venue at time. Singh, who was about to move towards the dias, was told that he had to wait a bit further as the MP had not reached. Singh visibly lost his temper and left the venue in haste. Dr Roy, meanwhile, reached the venue at around 5.30 pm and had to wait for long three hours as the minister finally returned to the dias after repeated persuasion by the NIT authority.

After the programme, Singh told the mediapersons that he reached the venue on time but as the programme was delayed he had no choice but to leave. Inaugurating the Y-20 Conclave, Singh said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dreamt of a vibrant India where the youths would lead the nation to its fullest prosperity.
