Unique barter fair Jonbeel Mela to begin from January 17 at Jonbeel Pathar

JAGIROAD: The traditional Jonbeel Mela with unique barter will be held at Jonbeel Pathar from January 17 to January 19. The mela will begin with the hoisting of mela flag by traditional Gova king Dipsing Deuraja and a feast of the king at the mela venue on January 17. The unique barter will begin at 5 am on January 18 where hill tribes from Meghalaya and Karbi Anglong will exchange their agri products with the plain tribes. The barter will be inaugurated by Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri.

The cultural events thereafter will be inaugurated by Jagiroad MLA and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Piyush Hazarika. The souvenir Jonbeel will be released by Morigaon Deputy Commissioner Rituraj Bora. The collection of tax by the traditional Gova king accompanied by Rajdarbur will take place on January 19. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the darbur as the chief guest and hand over rajbhatta to the traditional kings. The session will also be attended by State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as the guest of honour.
