JAGIROAD: The traditional Jonbeel Mela with a unique barter will be held at Jonbeel near Jagiroad from January 16 for three days.

The hill tribes from Meghalaya and Karbi Anglong will exchange their agricultural produces with the plain tribes in the mela. The mela will be attended by 18 traditional Tiwa kings. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the Rajdarbar on January 18 where he will extend the Raj Bhatta to the traditional kings, said Jonbeel Mela managing committee secretary Jursingh Bordoloi.

While addressing a press conference, he further said that the mela was facing problems from some illegal encroachers and called upon the Morigaon district administration to look into the matter. He also appealed to the CAA protesters not to call any bandh during the meal.
