LAKHIMPUR: The UBPO (United Bodo People's Organization) has demanded the BJP to field a Bodo community leader outside BTR in the upcoming Rajya Sabha election and to elect him. The organization has also demanded to notify the villages and constituencies under Bodo Kachari Autonomous Council (BKWAC) at the earliest.

The UBPO has raised the demands as per resolutions adopted in a Central Committee Executive Body meeting organized on Friday. The meeting was held at BKWAC headquarter at Sanjari Nwgwr, Simen Sapori in Dhemaji district. The meeting commenced with president Manoranjan Basumatary in the chair. On the other hand, general secretary Pitambar Brahma explained the objective of the programme. Adviser Bipin Goyari, Birendra Kumar Brahma, Sukreswar Goyari, vice-president Lalit Chandra Basumatary, assistant general secretaries Amit Kumar Basumatary Abhiram Bodo and other office bearers of the organization were present in the meeting.

The meeting held a detailed discussion over various issues of the Bodo community outside BTR. After the discussion, the meeting took further resolutions to demand the State government to notify Sanjari Nwgwr as BKWAC's headquarter and approve of the newly constructed secretariat at the earliest, to fulfil all commitments made before the last Assam Assembly Election, to implement all recommendations of the Third Bodo Peace Accord by involving all Bodo frontal organizations led by UBPO.

The executive body meeting also discussed the progress of the preparations undertaken to hold the 8th Annual Conference of the UBPO at Langhin in Karbi Anglong district from February 25 to February 27.
