KOKRAJHAR: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on Friday came down heavily on the president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Bhupen Bora for his alleged remarks on UPPL president Pramod Boro. The UPPL has demanded apology from Bora for his comments and warned that they will take legal help to take action on his allegations against the UPPL president without proof.
APCC president Bhupen Bora on Friday said UPPL president and CEM of BTC Pramod Boro was a student leader-turned-politician. Bora said Pramod Boro led the Bodoland movement with the demand of divide Assam 50:50 but now he has turned in to divide money 50:50 after coming to power.
At a press meet held at party office here, political advisor to Pramod Boro, Madhav Chandra Chetri said the APCC president Bhupen Bora’s remarks on the president of UPPL were misleading. He said UPPL had nothing to say on their agenda to strengthen the party base of Congress but instead of doing party works, Bora targeted Pramod Boro during his Kokrajhar visit. He demanded that Bora must seek apology for his remarks based on suspicion. He said that regional politics was not weak as per Bora’s claim.
The UPPL led by Pramod Boro has been working for peace and equal development of all communities, said Chetri. He said the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has witnessed a new change under Pramod Boro and the region has become peaceful. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been giving special interest for the development of BTR, he said.
On purchasing of lands by UPPL leaders in Delhi, Bengaluru and other cities of India, Chetri said there was no proof of purchasing lands by UPPL leaders. It is nothing but just propaganda of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leaders, he said. The BPF was involved in massive corruption, he said adding that Pramod Boro has brought reforms and transformed the council and had established democracy in BTC.
On the desertion of senior UPPL leader Moinul Hoque and his subsequent joining the BPF, Chetri said everybody had the right to choose their way in politics but being a former student leader of ABMSU, he should have patience for some time with UPPL which is giving importance to the issues of different communities.
