Unlock-1.0: Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra to open from today for devotees

LAKHIMPUR: As a result of various relaxations declared through Lockdown-5.0 or Unlock-1.0 initiated by the Union Government from June 1, the religious institutions of the State, including temples, xatras, mosques and churches will open for devotees from Monday.

Along with them, the closed door of the Kirtan Ghar of Shri Shri Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra, one of the most revered Vaishnava peeths in north-eastern India, located in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district, will be opened for pilgrims and devotees from 7.00a m on the same day after more than a two-and-half months long period. In this regard, the government guidelines and the lockdown protocols will be strictly followed.

This was declared by Xatra Development Committee secretary Durlabh Dev Goswami and Deka Xatradhikar Bhupendra Dev Goswami on Sunday. According to the secretary, the devotees or the pilgrims have to enter the xatra complex after being sanitized at the entry point. Of them only 20 persons within an hour can offer their prayers inside the main temple one by one maintaining six feet social distancing in the queue.

On the other hand, the secretary expressed reaction over the prohibition with regard to the distribution of prashada among the devotees. In this connection, he said that the distribution of the prashada would be restricted and called upon the administration to clarify whether the prashada items brought by the devotees to the xatra could be accepted or not.
