UPPL legislator Lawrence Islary vows to work for masses' welfare

KOKRAJHAR: Newly- elected United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) legislator from 30-Kokrajhar East Lawrence Islary has assured the people of the region to work for the welfare of all communities and to fulfil the commitment of the party.

Talking to a group of media persons, Islary said that his victory from Kokrajhar East constituency was the victory of people that desired a new change in BTR. He thanked the people of the region for their mandate in his favour and other candidates of UPPL. He said that he would try to sort out the basic problems and other grievances of the people, besides working for the development of the constituency. He also said that he would try his level best to fulfil the commitment of the party as stated in the manifesto.

Islary, who had been with the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) for over one and half decades in various capacities, won from the prestigious Kokrajhar East constituency by defeating former minister Pramila Rani Brahma, the six-time MLA from the same constituency. Islary defeated Brahma by a margin of 20,989 votes.

Meanwhile, the president of United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO), Manuranjan Basumatary and general secretary Pitambar Brahma hailed the winners of the UPPL-BJP alliance from BTR and hoped that they would work for the development of people of the State, including solution of some vital issues related to CAA movement, flood and erosion, big dams, corona pandemic, unemployment and other issues of the indigenous people of Assam. They also hoped that the BJP-led Mitrajoot would ensure safety, security and protection of indigenous communities.
