KOKRAJHAR: The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) held public meetings at Jharbari and Halang Bazar under Debargaon and Banargaon constituencies in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a grand public meeting of BPF candidate Rajib Brahma from Banargaon constituency was held at Banglabari near Jharbari on the same day.

Talking to reporters, the president of UPPL, Promod Boro said his party would undoubtedly form the next council government in BTC with absolute majority. He said the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) attempt to reach out to tribal people and the special delegate meeting of the Tribal Morcha of BJP held in Kokrajhar to woo tribal voters would not be a matter of concern for UPPL. He said the UPPL had been raising voice against the practice of corruption, misrule and nepotism by BPF leaders in BTC. He also said their mission was to establish a corruption-free and transparent government, giving equal justice, development and privileges to all communities.

Boro said the BPF would oppose the implementation of the clauses of the BTR accord if they came to power. The BPF was also trying to confuse the people by saying that there was nothing new in the BTR accord. He said the BPF leaders were frustrated seeing the emerging mass support for UPPL.

The UPPL president said that BPF leader and State Tourism and WPT & BC Minister Chandan Brahma was hatching a conspiracy to destroy the party. He said Brahma's role in bringing up the BKWAC bill and inclusion of villages of Sonitpur and Biswanath districts in BTR had hurt the sentiments of the Boro people of both districts and those who were living outside BTC, besides hurting the Bodos of BTC.

On the council polls, Boro said the UPPL would get absolute majority as the support base of BPF was eroding fast. He said both the BJP and BPF as well as GSP were not factors for UPPL in the forthcoming BTR election.

Regarding the inclusion of villages from Sonitpur and Biswanath in BTR, he said the BPF leaders were creating confusion among the people. He said the Bodos of both the districts had nothing to worry as the commission with five members had been formed to include Boro and tribal villages in BTR. He also said that the ill-motivated policy of BPF to merge Boro villages with BKWAC would not work.

The public meeting was also addressed by former president of UPPL, UG Brahma, noted actor Fwila Borgoyary and was also attended by UPPL candidates Buddha Mashahary, Rabiram Brahma, Jatirindra Brahma and others.
