Silchar: 2020 ends with grisly images of the deadly disease COVID-19 around the world and equally the most tragic count of monumental deaths. Western countries have been hit again by the new wave of strain. Our country has recovered significantly from the dark phases. The two 'swadeshi vaccines' to protect people and prevent further spread of the virus are the most welcome developments of 2021 that invariably brings hope and cheers for Indians. Barak Valley waits eagerly for the life saving vaccines.
The health department of Cachar is gearing up for mega exercise of vaccinating around 20 lakh people. In 2011, the population of the district stood at 17 lakh plus. The indication is that as per policy decision of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Planning in conjunction with the states, the process of vaccination to begin any time from now will cover all the segments of population.
The health department shares the information that some doctors have been trained up for the purpose. Nursing staff will be given necessary instructions later on. In order to give drive to the vaccination, the list of priority includes front line crusaders like doctors, nurses, anganwadi workers, their helpers, police and para military force personnel, senior citizens in different phases on the basis of their age and then all sections of society. People for vaccination have also been made aware of the likely reactions after being vaccinated which are said to be common after administering injections.
A redeeming feature in the valley is ever decreasing COVID-19 cases. According to Dr Ibrahim Ali, Surveillance Officer attached with the department of health, almost all the COVID treatment centres in the district have been closed. He was confident in coming days, the dreadful disease will be a thing of the past and with that the spectre of looming fear and death will sink into oblivion. Till date from the beginning COVID-19 has claimed 136 lives. Let those fearful days never repeat, along with all, Cachar too wishes the same.
