LAKHIMPUR: Massive protest against the brutal killing of two persons of Assam by Arunachali miscreants on June 5 at Joyrampur under Dhemaji district continued for the third day in Lakhimpur.

On Wednesday, Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), in association with the Lakhimpur district units of Gorkha Students’ Union, Sadou Asom Kaibarta Yuva Chatra Sanmilan, Anusuchit Jati Yuva Chatra Parishad, All Adivasi Students’ Union of Assam, All Assam Chutiya Students’ Union rocked the Gumto Gate of Arunachal Pradesh, located near Harmoti of the Lakhimpur district. They staged massive protest by blocking the road leading to Arunachal Pradesh.

While demonstrating, the members of the organizations rent the air by shouting multiple slogans against the governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam regarding the issue. The protesting organizations demanded that the inquiry into the firing incident should be handed over to Dhemaji Police and the miscreants should be awarded with capital punishment.

Leading the protest programme, AJYCP Lakhimpur district unit president Hiranya Dutta, general secretary Diganta Bhuyan once again made a scathing attack on the Government of Assam alleging its failure with regard to protecting the Assamese people living in the Assam-Arunachal border area, despite inking of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Arunachal counterpart Pema Khandu.

Diganta Bhuyan slammed Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu for expressing no heartfelt concern on the heinous killing of two persons of Assam by aggressive Arunachali miscreants. AJYCP demanded a compensation of Rs. 50,00,000 to family of each deceased person and Rs. 5,00,000 to each of the injured persons. The organization also demanded the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to hand over the arrested five miscreants, who were involved in the brutal incident.

Notably, two persons were killed and two others injured when a group of unidentified men coming from Arunachal Pradesh opened fire in the Panbari area of Assam’s Dhemaji district on Monday. The two men who died were identified as Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi. The two injured persons, Puspa Gogoi and Akoni Gohain, were admitted to the hospital and are being treated.
