Vehicle Crashes Into Railing of Kolia Bhomora Bridge, Falls Into Brahmaputra

GUWAHATI: In a tragic accident at the Kalia Bhomora Bridge over the mighty Brahmputra which connects Kaliabor in Nagaon with Tezpur, a vehicle breached the railings of the bridge and went missing in the river.

According to reports, the incident occurred last night. On Monday morning, a local police patrolling team espied the broken railings of the bridge.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and launched a search operation in the river with help from emergency services workers.

Meanwhile, the Sonitpur district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Army have been called in for help.

"Looking into the extent of damage into the railings we suspect that the vehicle which has fallen into the river is a heavy one like a truck," informed an Assam Police personnel from the spot.

"Right now SDRF and River Thana are conducting the search operations," he further added.

The Kaliabhomora bridge connects the Nagaon district of Assam to the Sonitpur district.

It is not for the first time that such an accident has taken place over the bridge in the Brahmaputra. The bridge has been known for such accidents which with some losing their life as of yet.
