GAURISAGAR: Hemanta Changakakoty, veteran freedom fighter, educationist, social worker and a resident of Borpather Nalinibam village on the outskirts of Moran town breathed his last on Saturday morning at his residence due to old-age ailment. He was 95.

He was the founder teacher of Borpather ME School and taught many prominent persons like renowned filmmaker and Padma Shri Jahnu Baruah, and State Sports Minister Bimal Bora. He was actively associated with various socio-cultural organizations. He held the posts of secretary of Jnanuddipika Sabha, a leading organization of the State, secretary of Nagar Chatra Congress and Zila Chatra Congress. Renowned litterateur Dr Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi had depicted the life and work of Hemanta Changkakoty in her popular book Jibon Jibon Bor Anupom.

A shraddhanjali function where various organizations and individuals paid floral tribute. He is survived by his wife, two sons, including Dr Arun Changkakoty, District Agricultural Officer, Charaideo district, five daughters and a host of relatives.
