Veteran freedom fighter Golap Gogoi of Sivasagar district cremated with State honours

SIVASAGAR: Golap Gogoi, veteran freedom fighter of Banmukh Chutia village in Sivasagar district, died at the age of 94 on Saturday. The last rites of the veteran freedom fighter were performed at Banmukh Chutia village on Sunday with full State honours.

Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Megha Nidhi Dahal and Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan attended the funeral of the freedom fighter and paid their respects by laying wreaths at the mortal remains of the freedom fighter. Mourning the demise of the freedom fighter, the deputy commissioner expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. He along with Superintendent of Police shared grief with other members of the family, including Ila Gogoi, wife of Golap Gogoi.

Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Debajit Nath, Circle Officer of Sivasagar Revenue Circle Dr Jiwan Krishna Goswami, General Secretary of Sivasagar District Freedom Fighters' Association Dhiren Chetia, Executive Member of State Freedom Fighters' Association Sushil Baruah were present at the funeral. The veteran freedom fighter is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
