New Delhi: Assam's independent candidate and veteran journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan were among the 15 newly-elected members who took oath in Rajya Sabha on Monday.

The monsoon session of Parliament started yesterday amid many restrictions in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The elected MPs walked to the designated spot, took the oath, but did not go for customary handshake with Vice president and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu in keeping with COVID protocol.

On the opening day of the session that would conclude on October 1, tributes were paid to former President Pranab Mukherjee and 17 other former Members of Parliament (MPs) and to renowned classical singer Pandit Jasraj who passed away earlier this year.
