TANGLA: Senior journalist Bapan Sarma, an inhabitant of Bhuyankhat village of Udalguri district, who has completed three decades of his journalism career working for a number of Assamese vernacular dailies, has been selected for the Syed Jishar Jafry Memorial Award 2020.

The award constituted by the family of Guwahati-based Syed Nur Rahman and his family members in the memory of their son will carry a cash prize, a memento, xarai and a Bihuwan . The award will be presented to the veteran journalist by president and secretary of Tangla Media Circle, Deepak Deka and Shajid Khan at the journalist's residence in Bhuyankhat village of Udalguri district on January 1.

The ceremonial event will be attended by general secretary of All BTC Journalists'Association, Naba Kumar Deka. Besides, a lecture meet will also be held on the topic 'Challenges of Rural Journalism' where senior journalist Dipendra Narayan Konwar; president of Udalguri Press Club, Gautamjyoti Talukdar ; general secretary of Udalguri chapter of Assam Press Correspondent's Union (APCU), Dhiren Mahalia, among others will participate.
