MANGALDAI:  The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Darrang on Wednesday organized a day-long training-cum-awareness programme for the village heads and youth aspirants of para legal volunteers (PLV) of the district on the basic procedure of laws and adoption regulations here at its conference hall.

The inaugural session was addressed by Mayukh Goswami, chief functionary of the Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA), Darrang and a senior journalist, advocate Dharmendra Narayan Deb who is also a member of the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and Mridul Sarma, Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel (CLADC), as the resource persons.

Speaking on the topic ‘Adoption Regulations 2017’, speaker Mayukh Goswami dwelt at length on the role of the Village Heads and the PLVs being the grassroot stakeholders in the adoption process of a child under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. He urged upon them to remain well connected with the other grassroots stakeholders like ASHA, Anganwadi and ANMs so that every child in their villages could be protected and taken care of from being the victims of child marriage, illegal adoption, child trafficking and child labour. He also discussed the role of different child rights stakeholders like CWC, District Child Protection Officer, SAA etc. while dealing with the adoption mechanism. Guest speakers Dharmendra Narayan Deb discussed the rights of a child while Mridul Sarma discussed the basics of the procedures of criminal laws. Earlier, Simanta Bora, an employee of the DLSA, Darrang explained the objectives of the programme.
