Villagers Seek Bathou Blessings for Promising Village Archer Pramila Daimary

MANGALDAI: All residents of Khagrabari village of Bhergaon sub-division in Udalguri district on Tuesday performed a community prayer in the traditional rituals of ‘Bathou Dharma’ at the ‘Bathou Mandir’ of the village praying for the victory of promising village archer Pramila Daimary of Khagrabari.

Archer Pramila is going to fight in the ‘battle for supremacy’ in archery event in the Asian Games in Jakarta on August 23. The entire Khagrabari village since this morning wore a festive yet religious look as six priests of ‘Bathou’ – Deben Daimary, Guna Ram Boro, Hari Chandra Boro, Tarun Chandra Daimary, Gopi Basumatary and Kandu Majhi Boro – began the prayer by performing ‘Bathou’ hymns that lasted for three hours and prayed for the blessings of the Almighty to pave the way for the victory of the ‘worthy village daughter’ Pramila Daimary. The prayer was anchored by General Secretary of Bhergaon District Sports Association Lakkhi Ram Boro. Various organizations, including the organizers, offered felicitation on Abhi Ram Daimary and Renu Daimary, the proud parents of Pramila Daimary.

Taking part in the community prayer as the guest of honour, Commanding Officer of an Army unit Colonel Rahul Singh offered a phulam Bihuwan to the parents of Pramila Daimary and reiterated the commitment of the Indian Army towards the countrymen. He also assured them of extending all possible cooperation and support to the young talents of the area. Secretary of Darrang District Committee of Asom Gana Parishad Swaraj Deka and publicity secretary Naba Deka also offered felicitation to the parents of this promising archer and took part in the prayer.

Panery legislator Kamali Rani Basumatary and Kalaigaon MLA Maheswar Boro, BTC Deputy Speaker Nerson Boro, former MCLA Rati Ram Boro, Secretary of Udalguri District Committee of ABSU Anup Daimary, office-bearers of Mangaldai Media Circle Hitesh Hazarika, Ganesh Dutta, Dharmendra Narayan Dev and Bhargab Kumar Das also took part in the prayer.

Earlier taking part in the community prayer Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum- in-charge SDO (civil) of Bhergaon Dithakananda Hazarika made a fervent appeal to the guardians to control the use of motorcycle and cellular phones by their sons so that the younger generation could be motivated to spend more time in playing games.

Significantly, Ranjita Boro, the proud mother of boxer Angkushita Boro, took the initiative to organize the community prayer at the ‘Bathou mandir’ at Megh Jarani village near Thelamara in Sonitpur district praying for the victory of archer Pramila Daimary.
