KOKRAJHAR: With a view to bring social awareness to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, a rally fostering the end of TB was brought out by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, BTC, on Sunday.

Arup Kr. Dey, Executive Member, Health and Family Welfare, BTC, flagged off the walkathon on 'TB Harega, Desh Jeetega' campaign by the Government of India, from the BTC Secretariat field to RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar, in presence of Dr. Kausik Das, District TB Control Society. The walkathon was participated by doctors, school students, activists of Kokrajhar Anchalik committee, ABSU, ASHA workers, activists of People's Aid, NGO, Kokrajhar, and local people.

After the walkathon, a meeting was held at the premises of RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar. The Joint Director of Health Services, Kokrajhar, the Superintendent of RNB Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar, secretary of AMSA, Kokrajhar were present in the meeting.

EM Arup Kr. Dey stressed the elimination of the TB disease from Kokrajhar by 2025. He said that at least 30,000 people across the world got affected by TB daily. He said that the Government of India had taken up a mission to end TB by 2025 and massive campaign was on. Since TB was curable, Dey said that the District TB Cell had taken various initiatives and provides Rs. 500 to every TB patient on a monthly basis. He called upon all to take care of their health and give up consumption of alcohol and other drugs. The other speakers were Dr. J. Ahmed, Joint Director of Health Services, Kokrajhar, and Dr. Kaushik Das, District TB Officer, Kokrajhar.
