GUWAHATI: Three drug mafia have been injured in a firing that took place between police and robbers at Nalbari.
According to reports, the incident took place at Mugkusi Chowk in Hajo- Nalbari road. The injured have been identified as Bakkar Siddique, Biju Ahmed, Rubul Hussain.
Meanwhile, the police seized one vehicle bearing registration number AS01 BF 6693. A pistol has also been recovered from the place.
Director-General of Police, Assam (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on his social media handle wrote, "Today's ambush at Nalbari, planned and executed by the Nalbari and Ghagrapar thanas is a significant development, a Game Changer. Why I consider it so because I always encouraged OCs and Thanas to generate their own intel, own network without any intervention from Senior brass. The Nalbari and Ghagrapar OCs did just that. They generated their own intel, planned their own operation, and executed it. It was against a gang of cattle thieves, drug dealers, and other criminal elements. When this gang was ambushed they shot at the Police team while fleeing. Police retaliated, and 3 from the gang were shot & apprehended. Important to note that among the apprehended, we have the kingpin Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, who's a wanted criminal in a charge of cattle smuggling, drug trade, and other crimes. Search for the other three is still on. I congratulate the teams from Nalbari and Ghagrapar for this operation. And call upon each and every thana to emulate… inculcate local networks and create actionable intel, locally."
On the other hand, daily arrests and raids on drugs have been taking place across several districts of Assam, and with this, the Assam police have registered 264 cases and made 441 arrests between May 10 and 31.
So far, 6.57 kg of heroin, 5,785.85 kg of ganja, 92,366 numbers of Yaba and other tablets have been seized.
The police have also seized Rs 17,11,130 in cash along with 20 gm of morphine and 426 gm of opium.
It is to be mentioned here that the state police have launched a massive campaign on war against drugs since last month against the illegal drug trade and have substantially weakened the network of the peddlers, a police spokesperson said to news outlets.
