LAKHIMPUR: Water Resources Department, Information & Public Relations-cum- Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika on Saturday visited Lakhimpur district with a day-long programme. During the visit to the district, the Minister arrived at Nowboicha and inspected the plugging works of the unplugged embankment of River Singara.

Notably, the sudden surge of the overflowing water of the River Singara breached its right embankment at Chamua-Sholmoriya under Naoboicha Revenue Circle on June 14 around 1.00 pm. The flood caused by the river already washed away around 100 meter-long stretch of the said embankment and inundated around 12 villages under Naoboicha Revenue Circle. The rapid surge of the flood damaged and at once washed away three concrete residential houses.

While inspecting the breached portion of the embankment, Pijush Hazarika took stock of the situation and progress of the plugging works. He instructed the WRD officers to complete the construction of the breach at the earliest. There he interacted with the flood-affected people. He informed that study had been underway to ascertain if the Singara embankment could be constructed as road-cum-embankment for the feasibility of the same and benefit of the people. Then he visited the breached agri-bundh of River Gabharu. Interacting with the local people, the Minister said that the agri-bundh would be repaired soon.

Thereafter, the Minister arrived at North Lakhimpur Circuit House and took part in a ceremonial programme organized by Lakhimpur District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department. In the programme, the Minister inaugurated the service of the Mobile Veterinary Units in the district by flagging of the vehicle concerned.
