MANGALDAI: State Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika on Tuesday inspected the breached embankment of River Noa at village Kamarpara near here and took stock of the flood situation.

Two days back, the embankment was breached due to the rising water of River Noa. This embankment had earlier been constructed by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA). As a result of the breach, nearby villages were inundated. However, at the initiative of Mangaldai Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia and Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey, the Water Resource Department immediately initiated the repairing works.

The minister also interacted with the flood-affected villagers. He also assured to construct the 800-metre stretch of embankment from village Kamarpara to the proposed bypass of NH 15 under the Water Resource Department. While interacting with the villagers, the minister said that the Water Resource Department has been alerted to extend all possible services to the public.

“The State Government has already taken up prompt measures to renovate, reconstruct and strengthen all the embankments,” said Hazarika.

Mangaldai Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, legislator Basanta Das, former legislator Guru Jyoti Das, Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey also accompanied the minister.
