DIBRUGARH: Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika visited erosion-affected areas in Dibrugarh on Friday. Hazarika visited the erosion affected areas at the Brahmaputra river bank near Mali Patty, Puja Ghat, Koyla ghat, Phool Bagan of the town.

Speaking to media persons, Pijush Hazarika said, “It is a very very serious issue. We are very much concerned. The Chief Minister is also very much concerned. We have given Guwahati IIT to analyse, to give a report to the Water Resources department as soon as possible.”

“They will give us the report before August 15, 2023 whether we should go for spur or guard wall for a permanent solution of the issue. After getting the report we will do something very concretely so that Dibrugarh can be saved,” Hazarika added.

Dibrugarh town has been facing a grave threat due to erosion. The people of Dibrugarh has been facing huge challenges every year due to flood and erosion.

He left for Jonai from Dibrugarh. The minister is scheduled to inspect the sites and embankments under various water resources divisions under Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Dhakuakhana, Majuli on Friday. The minister is scheduled to visit the sites and embankments under Jorhat and Golaghat water resource divisions on Saturday.
