GUWAHATI: Anup Chetia, general secretary of the pro-talk faction of the ULFA, said that the outfit has not agreed to the draft agreement sent to it by the Government of India. Chetia said that the draft agreement falls short of ensuring the political and constitutional safeguard of the endangered existence of the indigenous ethnic people of Assam.

Talking to the media here today, Chetia said, “The central committee of the ULFA and its Karma Parishad had a detailed discussion on each clause of the draft agreement and took the decision. We want more discussion with the Central Government on the political and constitutional safeguards for the endangered existence of the indigenous ethnic people of Assam. We want 88 percent of the Assembly constituencies in Assam reserved for the indigenous people of Assam.”

Chetia said, “Our other demands are land rights for the indigenous people of Assam, providing ST status to six ethnic groups of the state, declaring floods a national problem, detection of foreigners through a correct NRC, etc.”

The central government’s interlocutor, AK Mishra, handed over the draft peace agreement to the pro-talk faction of the ULFA before the Bohag Bihu.
