GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday conferred 'Bengmora Sammanay Bota' posthumously on Jananeta Bhimbor Deuri at the 80th foundation day function of Matak Yuva Chatra Sanmelan held at Trinayan Jyoti Sangha in Dibrugarh. Grandson of Bhimbor Deuri, Manoj Deuri received the award from the Chief Minister.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that influenced by the spiritual tenets of Sri SriAniruddha Dev, there should be concerted effort for strengthening the society. Emphasising the role of the Matak in making Assam a stronger state, Sonowal said that the younger generation should have a fair idea about the untiring efforts of Sarbananda Singha in establishing a Bengmara territory.

Sonowal said that All Assam Matak Yuva Chatra Sanmilan since its inception has been working tirelessly for the socio-economic development of the people belonging to Matak community. He at the same time called upon the student organization to continue its impressive role and work accordingly for it to play a crucial role on all sectors of the state's development.

The Chief Minister also said that the previous State governments did not do anything substantial for the overall development of all sections of the people of the State. Even the previous governments did not take step to acknowledge the great role played by the great personalities of different ethnic communities. However, the present State government took decisive steps to honour the role played by the leaders of different ethnic communities. Introduction of an award in the name of Sarbananda Singha, establishment of a university after the name of Sri Sri Aniruddha etc reflect the intention of the State government in this regard. He also said that to safeguard rights of the indigenous people over their lands, State government has already allotted land pattas to more that one land families, stated a press release.
