NAGAON: As part of the international webinar series on different facets of Sankardeva Studies, organized by Society For Srimanta Shankardeva, Samudra Gupta Kashyap, state information commissioner, Assam delivered lecture on 'Sankardeva as a pioneer of mass communication' on Sunday. It was the third lecture, being scheduled in the series by the organizing institution.
Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkatoki, author and scholar of Sankari culture, who is also the president of Society For Srimanta Shankardeva, moderated the virtual lecture.
In his speech, Kashyap, the senior scribe of the State elaborated all in details about the different features of mass communication. He said that the 'Namghor' the unique creation of the saint was the only institution that incorporated all those seven functions of mass communication. 'Bhaona' was aimed at mass communication as it could be witnessed by a large audience. Even the songs and scriptures penned by the saint had a definite message, which was a feature of mass communication, Kashyap added further.
Moderator Dr Borkatoki also gave an idea of the scale of operation by Srimanta Shankardeva and said how Sankardeva used instruments like books, songs, plays etc in addition to using social networking through his large number of disciples. Dr Binoy Kr Bordoloi, president of Namghor Association of America, musician Dilip Changkakoti from Guwahati also participated in the programme, a release added.
