SIVASAGAR: The Department of English successfully organized an international webinar on Friday on the topic 'Ideas and Trends of Feminism, Gender Equality and Women's Movement'.

The webinar was inaugurated by the Principal of Gargaon College, Dr. Sabyasachi Mahanta. In his welcome address, Dr. Mahanta reflected on the gender related issues throwing light on the changing status of women in present times. The webinar was graced by the presence of three distinguished speakers, Dr. Upasana Mahanta, Professor and Director of Jindal Global University, Delhi, Dr. Dipti Visuddhangkoon, Associate Professor of Foreign Language of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya, Thailand and Dr. Hemjyoti Medhi, Associate Professor of English, Tezpur Central University.

Dr. Upasana Mahanta spoke about the 'Trends and Trajectories of Women's Movement' where she highlighted on the issues and the problems affecting women in the Indian context. Dr. Dipti Vishuddhangkoon from Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University highlighted on a different angle of looking at feminism throwing much light on Buddhist Feminism, whereas Dr. Hemjyoti Medhi talked about women and the making of the public sphere in contemporary Assam. The Webinar was coordinated by Dr. Rashmi Rekha Saikia, Head and Associate Professor of the Department of English, Gargaon College.
