TEZPUR: In view of the situation prevailing in the district due to COVID-19, the District Magistrate, Sonitpur, in exercise of powers conferred U/S 144 Cr.PC, has enforced total lockdown during weekends in the following areas falling under Sonitpur district, viz., Tezpur Development Authority, Dhekiajuli Municipal Board, Rangapara Municipal Board, Jamugurihat Municipal Board, Balipara Gaon Panchayat and Lokhra Gaon Panchayat for the period starting at 7:00 PM of July 31 (Friday) till 07:00 AM of August 3 (Monday) and also for the subsequent weekend starting 7:00 PM of August 7 (Friday) to 7:00 AM of August 10 (Monday).

The order No.SMJ.34/2019/187 dated June 26, 2020 enforcing total lockdown in all the areas under Sonitpur district from 7 PM to 7 AM on all days of the week will continue to remain in force.

During the enforced lockdowns, movement of persons, use of private vehicles and commercial passenger vehicles will not be permitted; all business/ commercial establishments, shops and trade activities, including milk supply, grocery shops, vegetable shops, daily bazaars, weekly markets, haats, etc., will not be permitted to operate; all industrial establishments shall remain closed; all public transport services shall remain closed; all hospitality services shall remain closed; all educational, research, training, coaching institutions shall remain closed; all places of worship shall remain closed for the public. No religious congregations will be permitted without any exception. All social/political/ sports/ entertainment/ academic/ cultural/ religious functions and gatherings shall be barred.

The following categories will be exempted from the purview of the lockdown - Defence, Central and State Police Forces, establishment of the District Magistrate, Commissioner of Police, home guards, Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, Disaster Management, Electricity, Water, Sanitation, municipal bodies (only staff required for essential services like sanitation, water supply); hospitals, retail and wholesale medical establishments; print and electronic media, including newspaper distribution are allowed; telecommunications, internet services, broadcasting and cable services, IT and IT enabled services.
