TEZPUR: In view of the rising COVID cases in Sonitpur district, Deputy Commissioner-cum-chairman, DDMA Sonitpur, Manvendra Pratap Singh in exercise of powers conferred under section 30 (2) (v), (xviii), (xx) and 34 (c), (h), (j), (m) of Disaster Management Act, 2005, has declared that all weekly and bi-weekly markets of Sonitpur District to remain closed till May 31, 2021. This order will come into force with immediate effect.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: The District Magistrate and Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Biswanath has ordered the closure of all weekly and bi-weekly markets and haats under Biswanath district w.e.f from Tuesday for the maintenance of public health, hygiene and safety of the general public in exercise of the power conferred upon under Section 34(¢), 34(m) of Disaster Management Act, 2005. This order came into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further order. This order came after the detection of a large number of COVID-19 positive cases in Biswanath district.

Any persons violating these measures will be liable to be proceeded against as per the provisions of the Act besides legal action or penalty as per IPC and other legal provisions, as applicable. The District Magistrate and Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Biswanath, Pranab Kumar Sarmah informed that there was every possibility of huge gathering in the weekly and bi-weekly markets and haats under Biswanath district which might lead to spread of COVID-19. Therefore, considering the present scenario, emergent steps were required to be taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the district, he said.
