SARUPATHAR: The Subdivisional Officer (SDO) of Dhansiri subdivision, Dibakar Nath has issued an order under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, that all weekly markets of Dhansiri subdivision where social distancing norms are not followed, will be shut down.

A large number of COVID-19 positive cases have been detected and a number of restricted zones have been declared in Dhansiri subdivision to restrict the community spread. The civil administration of Sarupathar has further directed to shut down such weekly vegetable markets where people do not follow social distancing norms. A large number of people were seen standing on the roadside of Sarupathar weekly market from 7 am on Wednesday morning. Such large gatherings of people in weekly markets may intensify the community transmission of COVID-19. In view of this, Dibakar Nath, (SDO) Civil of Dhansiri subdivision, felt it necessary to impose restriction in the operation of weekly markets in Dhansiri subdivision in the interest of public health, hygiene and safety.
