BISWANATH CHARIALI: Rampant selling of Arunachali liquor in some of the remote villages under Gohpur subdivision in Biswanath district has wreaked havoc in the homes and lives of several families.
In one such incident, one Gyanendra Jangre (34) of Chandamari Bangali village under Halem police station in Gohpursubdivision, lost his life on Monday evening at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH). According to information, Jangre had a quarrel with one Bachan Satnami (32) in an illegal pub at night in the village two days back. He was severely beaten up and injured by Bachan. Seriously injured Jangre was rushed to Gohpur FRU by his families and subsequently, doctors referred him to TMCH for better treatment, where Jangre succumbed to his injuries.
An FIR has been lodged at Halem PS in this respect by Jangre's family. Local villagers alleged that Arunachali liquor was sold illegally in many places but the departments concerned take no action against the traders of Arunachali liquor, leading to rampant consumption of it by daily-wage labourers, youths and farmers who are lured to spend their hard-earned money. The social environment in the villages has been totally destroyed, the villagers alleged.
