Wild elephants, after creating panic in the remote and rural areas of Assam, have now entered the cities to make life miserable for the city-dwellers. Such an incident has taken place in Nagaon town's Chokitup as two wild elephants, entering the Nagaon town, attacked and injured a person severely.

The severity of the injuries received due to the elephant attack is major for which the victim is being admitted to Nagaon civil hospital and reported to be in a critical state. The person injured due to the elephants' attack is identified as Dulal Das.

Notably, the wild elephants before this incident of entering the Nagaon town, had created havoc in Marangiyal. As alleged by the local people and villagers, the forest department, instead of sending the wild jumbos off into the jungles, are sending them towards the towns and places of human habitats which is resulting into major damage of properties and constructions.

In another incident of wild jumbos creating disturbances for people in Dhekiajuli, a herd of five wild jumbos entered the Dhekiajuli Tea Estate and created panic among the people. As stated by the local people, the elephants had come from the neighbouring Sonai Rupai Sanctuary and it is only after the local forest officials rushed to the spot and tried to push back the wild jumbos from the tea estate.

Similarly, in the Indo-Bhutan border villages in Udalguri district as well an incident of human-animal conflict took place leading to bloodshed. The wild elephants have continued to create terror and trample humans. In this incident, a herd of wild jumbos trampled two persons – Nandesar Rabha (50), son of Tipuram Rabha and Lohit Rabha (45), son of Parikhit Rabha at Natun Basti (Nonaipaar) village under Panery Police Station in Udalguri. The herd comprised of 5-6 jumbos and created terror in the village which reportedly falls under encroached area. Some people went to chase the herd away as well. Both victims were trampled by the elephants while four others managed to escape.
