TINSUKIA: Two persons including a woman were trampled to death after their house was ravaged by a herd of wild elephant at Tindolong close to Bordubi Tea Estate under Doomdooma PS on Sunday night. The deceased have been identified as Ram Tanti (42) and his aunt Budni Bhumij (70).

According to local people, a herd of more than 300 pachyderms from Tarajan-Duamara forest reserve entered Badlabheta/Bordubi and created havoc in nearby areas in search of food at around 11.30 pm. Though the local people mostly from tea tribe community took all means to drive away the herd but the elephants attacked the house of Tanti even as death of Iten Orang (26) at Tara TE by the attack of elephants on November 17 still looms large in the locality. According to them, elephants from the forest reserve enter housing areas every year and cause widespread devastation. They alleged that following the incident at Tara TE, the forest department was informed but no action was initiated. Thus within a week, 3 lives were lost due to man-elephant conflict in the same area.
