DONGKAMUKAM: A herd of wild elephants entered Lumjong Kathar and Inglong Birik village under Bithung Rengthama MAC constituency on Friday night and damaged 10 houses. Besides houses, they targeted the paddy store houses and ate paddy and uprooted several areca nut plants in the area. The area is under Dongkamukam Forest Range Office, West Karbi Anglong.
Few people, sensing the arrival of the wild jumbos, shifted themselves to safer places. No human casualty was reported.
In addition to the havoc wreaked by the elephants, thunderstorm had damaged over hundreds of houses under the constituency two days back. Local MAC and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang extended some financial support to the affected families.
