KOKRAJHAR: Minister Bimal Bora, who was given the assignment of looking into the political affairs of the BTC region ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections, was on a two-day visit to Kokrajhar on Sunday. He held meetings with the UPPL, BJP, and other coalition partners at Bodoland Guest House, Kokrajhar, on Sunday and discussed the strategies of the alliance partners.
Speaking to the media, Bora said the coalition partners discussed the strategy and preparedness for the 2024 parliamentary election to make sure of winning all 14 parliamentary seats in the state. He said the BJP was in alliance with the UPPL, AGP, and GSP, and thus they are looking to arrive at a conclusive decision to field candidates by sharing seats. He said their focus was not confined to seat sharing but on how to make sure of capturing all 14 seats under Mitrajath. He also said for Kokrajhar and Darrang-Udalguri HPC, they will field candidates from Mitrajath, and candidates will be decided after discussion within the coalition partners.
The fact that no minister of the state or leaders of the BJP or UPPL have clear versions on deciding candidates for Kokrajhar and Darrang-Udalguri seats. UPPL is also not clear in their stand on whom they will project for both seats, while the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF has made it clear that they will field their own candidate and will not go for an alliance with any party. Mohilary is likely to back the former Deputy Chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary.
