KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Tuesday called on the Additional Chief Secretary of Assam for Higher Education and chairman of high level enquiry committee Biswaranjan Samal during his visit to BU on Monday and threatened that they will resist the further joining of accused Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU) Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh in the university after August 31. The ABSU demanded immediate removal of accused V.C. Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh from Bodoland University, immediate appointment of new Vice Chancellor of BU and taking urgent and necessary action for the smooth administration of the Bodoland University.

A joint memorandum was submitted to Biswaranjan Samal, Additional Chief Secretary to Government of Assam, Higher Education department and chairman of high level enquiry committee on severe irregularities of VC of BU. The joint memorandum was signed and submitted jointly by the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), BTR Gorkha Samaj, BTR All Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union (AKRSU), All BTR Schedule Caste Students’ Union, BTR All Minority Students Union (AMSU), All Assam Bengali Youth and Students’ Federation (ABYSF), KDC-All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), KDC-Sutradhar Sanmilani, on the visit of high level enquiry committee at Bodoland University for the purpose of enquiry demanding immediate removal of Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh from BU and appointment of new VC.

The memorandum said it was a serious concern for all that the enquiry against Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh, who is incumbent Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University, is being underway but despite being accused and arrested person he is now on pre arrest bail. They said at present Singh had been sent to leave till August 30.

The joint memorandum also said Singh was being accused and arrested person on corruption charges by Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption and CM’s Vigilance Cell (Case no. 01/2022 U/S 120B/420/409 IPC R/W Sec. 13(a)/13(2) of PC Act, 1988). The case has very clear evidence that Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh being the VC of BU has been accused of and charged under IPC 120b as an offence of criminal conspiracy 420 Cheating with dishonesty and 409 criminal breach of Trust as a public servant with corruption charges under section 13(a)/13(2) of Prevention of Corruption of Act. 1988.
