Will wage war on 'love jihad' if BJP wins 2021 polls: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Assam's Finance, Health, and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the state government is ready to wage war against the phenomenon of "Love Jihad" if the BJP comes to power in the 2021 assembly elections. The election is due in March-April of 2021.

During his address at a BJP Mahila Morcha meeting in Upper Assam's Dibrugarh, Sarma said that the administration will have to start a "new and strict" fight against love jihad. "If the BJP comes to power again, we will take a decision that if any boy hides his religious identity and comments anything negative on Assamese daughters and women, he will face ruthless and rigorous punishment," Sarma has been quoted as saying. Sarma added that if (Badruddin) Ajmal"s army touches Hindu women, the only punishment for them will be a death sentence. "We are working with such a resolve," he said.

The senior BJP leader further observed that the BJP has been losing in 5 Constituencies due to a "conspiracy" by some parties involved.

He further observed that "love jihad" has created a problem of mountainous proportions for Assamese daughters. He further claimed that many girls have faced talaaq situations after getting duped by fake names of the boys. The Minister promised promised "ruthless replies" to any culture-civilization that attacks Assamese girls.

Sarma further claimed that the 2021 assembly election is for saving the "culture-civilization" of the Assamese people, and asked '65% people' to "fight together against Amal's "culture civilization." It needs mention here that as per the 2011 census report, 34.22 percent of people in Assam are Muslims while 61.47 percent are Hindus.

Sarma said that if people wish to live as Assamese, then they have no other option but to make the BJP victorious in 2021 to save and keep alive the Sanatan culture-civilisation."

The education minister further added that the government has decided to shut down all the state-controlled madrassas "imparting orthodox religious teachings that go against the culture of Sankar-Ajan Peer."

"This is not a poll of schemes. This is not an election for someone to become the chief minister or an MLA. This is an election to save our society.
