Woman Attacked With Dagger in Kamrup for Rejecting Love Proposal

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident, a woman sustained critical injuries after she was attacked with a dagger by a youth at the Changsari area in Kamrup district on Wednesday evening.

As per reports, the youth stabbed the woman brutally for not accepting his love proposal. The woman, who received severe injuries on her lower abdomen and was in a serious condition following the incident, was admitted to Tularam Bafna Civil Hospital.

However, considering her health condition, she was referred to be taken to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). But her condition deteriorated further after which she was shifted to Narayana Superspeciality Hospital. The attacker identified as Imran Hussain has been arrested by the Changsari police. The victim woman is a resident of Bherbheri Bil Village in Darrang district.

A college student of Lakhimpur district's Dhakuakhana was attacked by youth in Dhemaji last week. Two days later, she died at Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) where she was undergoing treatment following the incident. The deceased girl Nandita Saikia, who hailed from Naba Kathbari village in Dhakuakhana, was a B.A. third-semester student at Maridhal College in Dhemaji. Like the Changsari woman, Nandita was also attacked by the youth for rejecting his love proposal. The attacker Rintu Sharma was arrested by the police.

Assam has seen a number of incidents related to crimes against women in the past few years. A college student got seriously injured when a youth of the same college, poured acid over her in October 2018 as her family had allegedly refused his marriage proposal. The incident took place at Pathali Pahar in Lakhimpur. As per reports, the girl, a student of Sankardev College, was returning home with a friend after attending classes when two youths, who came in a car, met them. The youth (who poured acid on the girl) asked her to sit in the car and on her refusal to do so, poured acid on her body.
