GAURISAGAR: A protest meeting was held at Jhanji Moran Chiga Krira aru Sanskritic Bikash Kendra on Tuesday against setting up of a country liquor shop.
The meeting was convened by Brihattar Morangaon Mahila Samaj in association with Jhanji Alangkita Mahila Samaj. Noted social worker Lakhimi Baruah presided over the meeting. Kabita Baruah explained the objective of the meeting while educationist Manik Saikia, social worker Anil Baruah, Robi Sankar Baruah and local village headman Paban Gogoi took part in the meeting and strongly opposed the setting up of a country liquor shop in the village. A resident of Norakonwer village, ward no.1 under Hatighuli Gaon Panchayat applied for starting a liquor shop in the village. Getting this information, the women of the locality strongly opposed it. The meeting also decided to submit a memorandum to the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner for cancellation of the application.
