TINSUKIA: Workers of tea gardens in Assam will get a bonus of 20 per cent. This was decided in a series of meetings held between representatives of trade unions like Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) and the planters' body ABITA.
While some tea companies have agreed to disburse the first instalment before Durga Puja, others will give in one go. So far the ABITA held three meetings with ACMS, including on Thursday, and more in the pipeline to cover all tea gardens across the State, informed Madhurjya Barooah, secretary zone 1 ABITA Dibrugarh. The tea companies which will release 20 per cent in one go before Durga Puja are- M.K. Jokai Agri Plantations Pvt. Ltd, Amalgamated Plantations Pvt. Ltd, Goodricke Group Ltd. Joonktollee Tea & Industries Ltd, Rossell Tea Limited and Dhunseri Tea & Industries Ltd.
While Assam Tea Company Limited will pay in two instalments - 15 per cent before Durga Puja and 5 per cent in January 2021, the Andrew Yule & Company Ltd will disburse bonus 16 per cent before Durga Puja and 4 per cent during Magh Bihu.
