Workshop on astronomical data analysis organized by JB College, Jorhat

A CORRESPONDENT

JORHAT: A three-day workshop on astronomical data analysis was organized by the Department of Physics, JB College recently. It was sponsored by Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune. The workshop was a part of IUCAA Centre for Astronomy Research and Development (ICARD), Tezpur University. The inaugural session of the workshop was started with the welcome speech by the Principal Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta. The primary focus of the workshop was to introduce different data analysis techniques involved in astronomy research to the participants.

The programme covered a mixture of practical hands-on data analysis sessions and also included exciting science talks and complementary skills training. The workshop, which was intended for graduate and post-graduate students, research scholars and college/University teachers who are working in the area of astronomy and astrophysics, was coordinated by Prof. Ranjeev Misra of IUCAA, Pune and Dr. Ankur Gogoi of Jagannath Barooah College, Jorhat, Assam.

The resource persons of the workshop were Prof. Gazi A. Ahmed (Tezpur University, Assam), Dr. Rupjyoti Gogoi (Tezpur University, Assam), Dr. Gautam Saikia (North Gauhati College, Assam).
