JORHAT: A two-day workshop was organized recently in the Assam Agricultural University Jorhat campus under National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) Component 2A activities and implementation of Academic Management System (AMS), jointly by Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Indian Agricultural Statistic Research Institute (ICAR-IASRI), New Delhi and AAU, informed Dr. Ranjit Kumar Saud, the Publicity Officer of AAU.
Dr. Saud said that the objective of the workshop was to train the academic staff, IT professionals and staff from the university on the use of digital platform. Altogether 108 participants from nine constituent colleges of AAU attended the work shop.
Dr. Ananta Saikia, Professor in the Department of Horticulture, during the inaugural session of the workshop as the nodal officer of NAHEP-Component 2A, elaborated the importance of digitized management of academic system and highlighted other aspects of e-learning, content creation, input creation for a mobile app with artificial intelligence for identification of pests and diseases of important crop establishment of virtual classroom and use of virtual reality in development of teaching aids.
Dr Askok Bhattacharyya, the Director of Research (Agri) and Vice-Chancellor in-charge of AAU, formally inaugurated the workshop and highlighted the significance of automation and digitalization with the example of Blackboard Academy Suite used by universities of developed countries. The AAU-VC also expressed his satisfaction over Assam Agricultural University being part of the revolution of agricultural higher studies in India and requested NAHEP to select AAU as one of the beneficiaries of a virtual classroom.
