TINSUKIA: "Food Processing Industries have the potential to take Assam on a high growth trajectory," said Rameswar Teli, Minister of State, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. Speaking at the workshop on Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Schemes organized by Ministry of Food Processing Industries in association with Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) in Tinsukia on Wednesday, Minister Rameswar Teli said the schemes initiated by MoFPI can be a game changer and usher in inclusive economic development in Assam to a large extent, stated a press release.

Addressing the participants he elaborated the PMKSY & PMFME Schemes and urged the self help group and entrepreneurs to come forward and take advantage of the very useful and supportive schemes. He said that once the NIFTEM Bill is passed the possibility of setting up an Food Institute in Assam will be explored.

He further said the scheme introduced by MoFPI will work towards creation of approx 13000 PM FME units within a outlay of 638 crores in next 5 years.

Earlier Sanjay Kishan, Minister of State, Labour & Tea Tribe Welfare, Government of Assam addressing the audience said that while lot of raw material go out of the State for reprocessing, an effort must be made to do the processing within the State itself and urged entrepreneurs especially women entrepreneurs to come forward and take advantage of the schemes. Virendra Mittal from Ministry of Food Processing industries said, "While Assam is endowed with abundance of fruits/vegetables and other horticulture products, producer do not get the real price because of lack of processing units and value addition there of. Welcoming the audience Vinod Lohia Director, FINER said, "FINER will strongly support MOFPI in implementation of these schemes."
