Workshop on ‘Rules of writing correct spelling in Assamese language’ held

LAKHIMPUR: A one-day long workshop on ‘Rules of writing correct spelling of words in the Assamese language’ was held in Dhakuakhana of Lakhimpur district on Saturday.

The event was organized by Lakhimpur Jila Xahitya Xabha (LJXX) and Rangabhumi, Dhakuakhana in association with Sapotiya Sakha Xahitya Xabha. The event was held under the management of Koustubh Kishor Chutia, Director of Rangabhumi, Dhakuakhana and it was inaugurated by Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) vice-president Girish Hundique.

Sahitya Akademi Award winner Fiction writer-cum-AXX Mother Language and Official Language Application Sub-Committee working president Jayanta Madhav Borah took part in the workshop as resource person. He made a detailed explanation about the set rules of writing correct spelling of words in the Assamese language by interacting with more than hundred students participating in the workshop. “Amongst the modern Indian language, learning of the rules of writing correct spelling of words in the Assamese language is very difficult. Without the proper knowledge on use of Assamese Vyanjan barnas (consonants), Swara barnas (vowels), matras derived from the Swara barnas, juktakshars, one cannot speak and write the Assamese language in correct form. At present, the Assamese language is used in extremely incorrect form in the electronic and social media in most cases. The upcoming generations are using the incorrect spellings of the words of the Assamese language available in the social media. So it becomes imperative to learn the rules of writing correct spelling of words in the Assamese language in order to keep the language alive in correct form,” Jayanti Madhav Borah said during his deliberation.

AXX chief secretary Upendrajit Sarmah attended the valedictory session of the workshop as chief guest and delivered lecture on the importance of the topic of the event. AXX Centenary Project convener Santosh Dutta, AXX North Lakhimpur Regional Office secretary Bipul Sarmah Baruah central delegate Arunima Khanikar Hundique, LJXX president Umananda Baruah present as guest of honour. Other office bearers of the LJXX executive body also attended the event.
