DIBRUGARH: A day-long workshop on scientific cultivation of coconut was jointly organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Dibrugarh and Coconut Development Board Guwahati Office at the office premise of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh situated at Kordoibam under Lahoal Developlent Block.
Speaking about the aim of the workshop, Dr. Diganta Sharmah, senior scientist and head of the Kendra urged all the participants to grow all the varieties of coconut scientifically and carefully to reap its due harvest. The programme was directed and coordinated by Dr. Sudeshna Baruah and Dr. Sanghamitra Sarma, respectively.
Participating in the programme as chief guest, Rajat Kumar Pal, Director of Coconut Development Board, Guwahati Office, highlighted about various activities and benefits of schemes operated by the board for the benefit of farming community. He urged all the participants to cultivate coconut crop on scientific and economic scale to sustain their sustained enhanced farm income besides availing the subsidized schemes of Coconut Development Board. Special guest Dibrugarh DDC Jitu Kumar Das urged the participants to exploit the benefits of coconut cultivation economically and scientifically.
Chairman of District Development Authority Dibrugarh Ashim Hazarika in his speech as honoured guest, emphasized in the commercial cultivation of all suitable agricultural crops in Dibrugarh district on scientific basis as it can contribute to the growth of the economy. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were NABARD DDM Pranoy Bordoloi, RSETI Director Amitabh Bhattacharyya who in their respective deliberation appreciated Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh for undertaking suitable and timely interventions for empowering the farming community in the district on a regular basis.
The technical sessions also enlightened topics like scientific cultivation practices of coconut crop and its pest control measures by the subject matter specialists Dr. S. Baruah and Dr.S. Sarma of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh.
Dr.Hemchandra Saikia ,specialist in Agricultural Economics informed that the very objective of the Coconut Development Board , GOI and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh is to create effective awareness on the subject. Altogether 100 farmers across the Dibrugarh district successfully participated in the workshop and 3500 quality seedlings of coconut crop were distributed among beneficiary farmers.
