DOOMDOOMA: Bir Raghab Moran Government Model College, Doomdooma organized a highly informative one-day workshop focused on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Standard Club activities on Friday. The event, held in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics at BRMGMC, and the Bureau of Indian Standards under the Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution, Govt.of India aimed to create awareness and understanding of the significance of standards in various fields.

Under the able guidance of Dr. Amorjit Saikia, Principal of BRMGM College, Doomdooma, the workshop was successfully co-ordinated by Dr. Pranjal Talukdar from the Department of Mathematics. Dr. Saikia who graced the occasion as the chairperson, lent his support and encouragement to the participants.

The workshop featured distinguished resource persons from the Bureau of Indian Standards, Jishnu Das, Standards Promotional Officer (SPO), BIS and Tinku Pal, Laboratory In-charge, M/S GASGEN Ferro Alloys LLP. They delivered enlightening presentations on the role of the Bureau of Indian Standards in product certification and emphasized how it determines the quality standards of various consumer goods in India. The sessions were tailored to engage students and create awareness about the standards of the goods they consume and the importance of maintaining those standards.

As part of the programme, a writing competition was organized for the students, focusing on the topic “Indian Standards of Biscuits.” Prior to the competition, the resource persons provided an orientation on writing format, style, content, and subject matter. The students eagerly participated, showcasing their knowledge and creativity in the competition. After a rigorous evaluation, the results of the contest were announced, recognizing the outstanding efforts and contributions of the participants.

The workshop drew to a graceful conclusion with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pranjal Talukdar, who expressed gratitude to all the participants, resource persons, and organizers for their active involvement and valuable contributions.

The event proved to be a significant step towards promoting a culture of quality consciousness among students and fostering an understanding on the role of standards in various sectors. The BRMGM College, Doomdooma, along with the Department of Mathematics, is committed to continuing such initiatives to empower students with knowledge and practical exposure to industry practices, ensuring they are well-prepared for future challenges in their respective fields.
