SIVASAGAR: Gargaon College Science Forum (GCSF) in association with IQAC & Environment and Climate Cell, Gargaon College, and Assam Science Society, Gargaon Branch, organized a two-day workshop on teaching and learning for Science and Mathematics teachers from primary through secondary schools in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts as part of celebration of National Science Day 2023, on February 27 and February 28 at Gargaon College premises.

Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, distinguished academician and Principal of Gargaon College, inaugurated the programme. In his deliberation, he emphasized the role of trained teachers in bringing out the full potential of students. Eminent mathematician and retired Professor from the Department of Mathematics, Dibrugarh University, Dr Gopal Chandra Hazarika, along with Dr Gouree Shankar Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Dibrugarh University held two technical sessions on the first day and influential speaker Dr Bhaskar Sarmah, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology held the third technical session on February 28. In their talks, the resource persons emphasized on the need to understand the child’s point of view while teaching.

A book launch programme of the book Open Science published under the aegis of GCSF was also held. The editors of the book are Assistant professors of Gargaon College viz. Dr Kabita Phukan, Monurama Phukan and Bonika Buragohain. For the students from all streams of Arts, Science & Commerce of Gargaon College, a Poster Presentation Competition was held in both Assamese and English medium on the theme ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’.

Kamal Jyoti Gogoi, Inspector of Schools, Sivasagar Circle and Debajyoti Gogoi, Deputy Inspector and BEEO, Nazira graced the valedictory session of the programme and talked about the role of teachers in shaping the dreams of the nation.
