Workshop organized on petroleum product conservation in Tezpur

Tezpur: A day-long workshop on petroleum product conservation in the agriculture sector was held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur at the Napam campus on Thursday.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Promod Ch. Deka, Head, KVK, Sonitpur. Dr. Deka welcomed the participants and the dignitary and explained the objective of the workshop. Dr. Deben Baruah, Professor, Department of Energy, Tezpur Central University, spoke about the use of petroleum products in agriculture, their sources and their environmental impact. Dr. Baruah elucidated the measures by which the use of petroleum in agricultural operations could be minimized and thereby conserve energy for the benefit of society.

He also emphasized different techniques for minimizing household fuel consumption. He elaborated on the use of solar and biological sources of energy in agricultural and household consumption such as biogas. He emphasized the use of farmer-friendly and cost-effective farm pieces of machinery for the economic benefit of the farming fraternity. The workshop was attended by around 50 farmers with the scientific staff of KVK, Sonitpur.
