GUWAHATI: The Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, flagged off a bicycle rally organized jointly by the Cotton Cycling Community, the Cotton University Students’ Union (CUSU), and the Cotton University NSS Unit in collaboration with Guwahati Smart City Limited on the occasion of World Bicycle Day on Saturday. The rally started from the Cotton University premises at around 6 a.m. to encourage people to take up cycling not only for fitness but also for daily commuting. Commenting on the occasion, the VC said, ‘I believe cycling is extremely good for our health. It is good for the environment, too. I promote cycling. People who can manage should go to college, schools, or offices by cycling, thereby contributing towards the green revolution.’
Around 50 participants, including the VC, the Director of Students’ Welfare, Dr Prasanta Sarma, senior faculty, Dr Hiren Deka, the Sports Officer, Dr Kulen Das, NSS volunteers, and other students, took part in the rally. The rally started from Cotton University to Chandmari flyover and then returned via Dighalipukhuri and the Reserve Bank to Cotton University, stated a press release.
