TEZPUR: With the aim to highlight the noble cause of blood donation, the Blood Bank authorities of Tezpur Medical College and Hospital observed World Blood Donors Day with a series of programmes.

A walkathon-cum-awareness rally was taken out by nearly 100 doctors, students and staff of TMCH this morning from TMCH through Tumukigaon and back to TMCH with the aim to create awareness about this year theme ‘Give Blood, Give Plasma, Share Life, Share Often’. The rally stopped at Tumikgaon naamghar and Assistant Professor Dr Abhinanda Barua informed the locals about the noble cause of blood donation, the gap between supply and demand of blood and blood products in the region.

On the occasion, two simultaneous blood donation camps, one by 30 Bn CRPF and one by National Medicos Association were organized at TMCH, where a total of 27 persons donated blood.

Later, a felicitation ceremony was also held as part of the day-long programme where several organizations and individuals were felicitated for their contributions in the field of blood donation. On the occasion, the Indian Red Cross Society was felicitated for organizing the highest number of camps in FY 2022-23, 155 Base Hospital was felicitated for having the highest number of donors in a single day in FY 2022-23, Sashastra Seema Bal was felicitated for organizing the most well-disciplined and well-organized camp, while Assam Valley School was felicitated for organizing a camp with the highest number of female donors for FY 2022-23.

On the other hand, Assistant Professor, Surgery, TMCH, Dr Bibhupriya Das was felicitated for the highest number of blood donations (male donor) at TMCH, Blood Bank while Chief Medical Officer, Assam Valley School, Dr Dimple Barua was felicitated for the highest number of blood donations (female donor).

Associate Professor and i/c, Blood Bank TMCH, Dr Ranjana Deka, gave the welcome address at the programme which was conducted by Asst Professor, Dr Abhinanda Barua. Principal, TMCH, Dr Karuna Kanta Hazarika, Superintendent, TMCH, Dr Rupam Borgohain, Administrative Commandant, Station Headquarters, Tezpur, Colonel Vinod Mehta, among others were present on the occasion.
