World Book Day observed in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: Under the aegis of Golaghat Sakha Sahitya Sabha and in association with Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya, World Book Day was observed on Sunday at the auditorium of Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya in Golaghat.

To mark the occasion, a speech competition among the students of different schools in Golaghat and a special speech programme were organized. In the speech competition under Category A, two popular books of Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia were given and the participants had to give speech on any one of the books . The two books were Moromor Deuta and Mur Xoixhab, Mur Koixhur.

On the other hand, in Category B, the two given books were Kitap Porhar Ananda by Homen Borgohain and Muru Eta Xopun Ase by Dr Rubul Maot. In Category A, the first prize was bagged by Anubrata Hazarika while Nishita Baruah and Sunayan Gogoi bagged second and third prizes respectively. Anweshana Chaliha got consolation prize. All of them are from Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya. In Category B, first prize was bagged by Meghragini Bora from Mahatma Balya Bhawan School, second prize was bagged by Syeda Munjima Shahrin Sultana from Dandadhar Girls' School and Shristipriya Deb from Mahatma Balya Bhawan School bagged the third prize while Gyandeep Saikia from Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya got consolation prize.

The special speech programme was presided over by the president of Golaghat Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Anil Sharma. Renowned writer and social activist Arnab Saikia attended the programme as chief speaker and he delivered his speech on the topic 'Importance of Book Reading in Present Day Situation'. In the programme, a book named Collage was unveiled by Dr Ajit Baruah. The book is written by Rijuwana Hussain, a young student from Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya.
